At the end of the installation the tuning tool starts automatically. The installer is adware-infested and advertises other software from the manufacturer we declined to set up Auslogics Driver Updater with one click. We deactivated this by removing a checkmark. During the setup of the free version, it is noticeable that the sending of anonymous information for product improvement is switched on. We took a critical look at Auslogics Disk Defrag Free and the trial version of the paid Ultimate version. If you have an SSD computer in which an HDD (usually connected via SATA) is installed in addition to an SSD, Auslogics Disk Defrag also makes sense: You install the tuning tool on the SSD, then use it to treat the HDD drive. Even the best defragmented HDD is lagging behind a bad SSD in terms of speed. But the installation of an SSD brings more cheap SATA models no longer cost around 100 euros. Auslogics Disk Defrag makes sense, however, if you have an older PC only with a hard drive, whose performance you can lift into new spheres with the tool, depending on the degree of fragmentation. You should not defragment one of these, the optimization does not bring any speed gain it promotes wear and tear and reduces the service life. Is such a program still needed today? Despite many features and good designs, not necessarily: More and more PCs and notebooks are using an SSD. The visual appearance looks modern – as with many defragmenters that are updated. In the past, Auslogics Disk Defrag was structured like an assistant, but the manufacturer has now abandoned this interface style.
